Brian Jepson. Locally-born architect and a great supporter and friend of Ipswich, sadly Brian died in October 2014. However, it was his gift of the remarkable architect drawings relating to the Fore Street Facelift in 1961 which provided the foundation of the Ipswich Society's exhibition and this website.
Tony Hill. Tony has been an active supporter of the Ipswich Society for many years and sat on its Executive Committee, also editing the Society's Newsletter. He initiated interest in the Brian Jepson drawings and passed them to the Society. He also provided his 1975/6 research material on historic Fore Street which includes a wealth of images and information.
Bill Haward. Local architect and son of the late Birkin Haward, Bill responded to the Brian Jepson drawings by supplementing them with a splendid new batch, this time in inked line and pencil. Bill also provided the monochrome photograph set of Fore Street shops and buildings in early 1961.
Cllr Mandy Gaylard (Suffolk County Councillor for St Helens Ward) financially supported the Fore Street Facelift 1961 project from the outset.
Tim Leggett took the Bill Haward photographs and created a companion set of views of the locations as they look today: our 'Then & now' set.
Ken Windsor. Ken provided two cassette tapes of Ipswich memories. His mother took the trouble to record in 1990 the strikingly detailed oral history of Fore Street in 1920 by Ted King.
Jill Jepson for the loan of a number of paintings, drawings and photographs of Fore Street buildings by her late husband, Brian Jepson.
Teresa and Nick Wiggin. Unearthed from their loft the East Anglian souvenir publication, packed with photographs of the Queen's visit to Ipswich and beyond.
David Kindred. David supplied the photographic prints from the local press of the Fore Street Facelift project for the exhibition, plus a larger selection on his Flickr website (see Links).
Thanks also to contributors to the exhibition and website: John Field, Stuart Cooper, Peter Beard, Janet Cross, Catherine Dell, Kerstin Fletcher, Peter Turtill.
Suffolk Record Office. A source for so much information and particularly the copies of the official programme for event at Ipswich football ground at Portman Road (see Links).
