PROJECTS
AN OVERVIEW
Projects Section Introduction

Without further ado, here are projects that we, as a Society have been involved in, and are of special interest to our town:

This section is based on and extends the Ipswich Society's exhibition The Fore Street Facelift 1961 (which ran from from 2 to 16 October 2015 at the UCS, now University Of Suffolk, Waterfront building, Ipswich, Suffolk). It commemorates events on Friday 21 July 1961 when Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II visited Ipswich to open the newly-built Civic College which stood off Grimwade Street to the east
of the town.
Ipswich Building Preservation Trust

Set up by Ipswich Borough Council in 1978 The Ipswich Building Preservation Trust (IBPT) acted as the restorer of last resort of the town's heritage buildings which were at risk. The Trust was very successful in this aim, completing eight projects (plus a ninth where building work was carried out by a third party). Changes in the property market in the 21st Century meant that the Trust's previous model of 'purchase, refurbishment and resale' became untenable. It was decided in 2026 to wind up the Trust and incorporate the IBPT website into The Ipswich Society site. Click on the title above to view the archive website.
