I had a chat with a couple of people I know well, over my piece in the last Newsletter [January 2014 issue, page 18] about the Lorenzo Castro painting in the Borough Collection. They informed me of another painting in the Borough Collection that is wrongly described: namely "The Assault on the Town of Oudenarde, Belgium" featuring the Duke of Marlborough, by Peeter Verdussen, which hangs in the west stairwell of the Mansion. "It's definitely not Oudenarde" I was told.
After quite a bit of research I have identified it as a depiction of William of Orange at the Siege of Namur in 1695.
