Broke of the Shannon Book Review

The book Broke of the Shannon and the War of 1812, edited by Dr Tim Voelcker, concerns the game changing engagement between the HMS Shannon, commanded by Captain Philip Broke of Broke Hall, Nacton and the USS Chesapeake, commanded by Captain Lawrence. This event is discussed by leading experts from British, American and Canadian perspectives within the context of the War of 1812. They look at the battle itself, as well as Broke as a gunnery expert, Arctic explorer, husband, medical miracle and Ipswich School boy, with additional chapters on the music and caricatures generated at the time and much more.
